  • I think the convention went very well there are always going to be problems so I am sorry that not all the people got there food at the social at the Raddison, but some people where taking more than there fair share the first time thru so that may have been the reason.
  • I worked as a volunter at walks starting on tuesday thru the final events on sunday. I think they all seem to be run very smooth as they where trying to get the masses of people out on the trail in a timely manner. I would just like to say that all workers and the commitee that to the time to do this deserve a very heart felt Thank You as much time and energy when it to making sure it was a Great Convention.
  • Finally I would like to say that I have been going to conventions since 1991 in Baltimore MD and I would definately say this one ranks up there in the top two or three in recent years, if I say it was the best people would just say hey isn't that guy from california, but I would definately say we had the best weather days on Saturday and Sunday so many other places in the USA could not match that for sure in the traditional time of year in June!!!

  • Overall, the convention was great.
  • Sincere thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this event such a success.
  • The walks were outstanding, with very good written directions.
  • Phone number provided was a good idea. However, I was told in one instance it did not work. I will be providing my cell number at my events in the future.
  • Parking was no problem, even at the walks that were advertised as limited parking.
  • Looking forward to the next convention in Texas.
  • Only warm water, if that, available at checkpoints. Not good in hot weather.
  • Number of checkpoints did not conform to AVA requirements in several cases.
  • Need 2 screens in main conference room. Those attendees on other side of screen (where I was) had difficulty seeing the screen.
  • Directions to events should include exit numbers. If not exit #, then provide approximate mileage. Do not indicate north/south, instead indicate left or right turns. Some of us are directionally challenged.
  • I question the need to announce the numbers in announcing the results of the election. I realize that has to be recorded in the minutes, but does it need to announced to the audience.
  • Meet and Greet. A fiasco, in my opinion. The only way to not run out of food at a function of this type is to have servers. Otherwise, the first people through the line get the food, they use the opportunity as lunch or dinner.

  • You all did a great job with what I consider "the best one ever" convention.
  • The variety in events, all well-staffed with very caring workers, was amazing.
  • It was good to make new friends; as well as seeing many from past travels-Bud & Jill, Merle Dvorak, Pat Lucero, Diane Anderson.
  • I have special thanks to Jay LaCroix for letting me hang with him when I couldn't do the walks, Roberta Murray for taking care of my shirt, forgot the names of two ladies who helped me get my meal tickets from Benicia start point, and a really special thanks to the ones who planned the Golden Gate Bridge walk. I was able to fulfill a lifetime ream of walking it and had a granddaughter who came and did it with me.

  • The convention was truly wonderful and we send congratulations and thanks to all who worked long and hard to put it all together. The diversity of the walks was really enjoyable.
  • Where the directions were good they were very good but where they were bad they were very confusing. I assume the walk directions were done by those familiar with the walk. The majority of the walks were very well described but there were two real clunkers: Folsom and Coloma.
  • Also, where the walk covers a special program detail should be given. If designated a president's walk state why - American authors, who or what book. Nothing was described on the walk directions and when questioning volunteers at the start point they could shed no light at all on the subject. This was frustrating. Our club puts all this information on the walk directions.

  • While working checkpoints we had several people stop by to ask what was going on. Although we passed out AVA business cards, this would be a good place to have the "Grabbers".
  • At checkpoints, the biggest desire was for Tootsie Rolls and Root Beer candy.
07/19/2007I have been to several conventions and this one had the best run events. We had no problem with the event directions. I appreciated the phone number on the directions in case we had difficulties. I think this information should be on all walk event directions. Someone knowledgeable about the walk should be the point of contact and have their cell number listed on the event directions. Great job to all the volunteers who put their time and efforts into hosting these great walks for us.
07/17/2007The Convention website was a tremendous help to me in assisting many individuals that had concerns and questions directed at the AVA National Headquarters. I felt very confident in answering all questions directed to me, with the extremely detailed and perfectly structured website I had absolutely no problem maneuvering around the information it provided, The excellent work that everyone put in on this Convention made my position as Customer Service and first contact at the National Headquarters a breeze! All in all everything was perfect in my eyes. A great job and a big hand to all of the volunteers that made this great event happen so smoothly. I looked at the photo galleries tonight from home and I felt like I had been able to attend the convention myself. I've never been to California, and after looking at all the photos and all the great folks, I felt like I had some fun also, even though I was working hard at AVA National Headquarters at the time. I actually had a tear in my eye, I was very touched at all the beautiful scenery and the wonderful folks having fun while keeping fit.I had a few folks that were still confused even after obtaining the initial registration brochure and the follow up brochure that was provided after registrations were input by Headquarters. Some concerns were the folks felt like the booklets were not detailed enough and left them with still more questions, like where to catch the buses and at what time on some events. Some folks called in a panic still not sure what to do and especially who to contact in special cases if they could not make an event or bus trip, etc. Some folks didn't know to look at the Committees listing for folks to contact.
07/16/2007My compliments to all who worked on the convention. It was great! The walks were all diversified and interesting. We especially liked Coloma and Sugar Pine Point but all were good. The only thing I could add was the directions at Folsom were not as good as the other walks.
07/15/2007The convention was fantastic. We really enjoyed all of the events and the friendly people. Meeting old friends, smiles and nice words, makes a convention a success. Congratulations to everyone!
07/09/2007Thanks to all the hard workers for making Sacramento 2007 an enjoyable and memorable convention. The directions to the walks were outstanding and most helpful. The parking volunteers were also very helpful; this started each day and walk with good feelings.Personally I prefer natural surfaces to aspalt and concrete so my recommendation (hope) for future conventions is that more walks be on natural surfaces and that the percentage of asphalt/concrete for each walk might be provided with the walk advance information so I can decide if I want to participate.
07/08/2007First I would like to thank all the volunteers for a great conference. The transportation effort was a work of art. To get 600+ people from one site to another once is an accomplishment. To do it twelve times is amazing. The walks were well chosen for their diversity and local interest. All in all it was a wonderful event. We were very glad we came. The hotel, while nice, was isolated for those without a car. The food options were limited. If the stores near the new Starbucks had been open it would have been better. Also the first social was a disappointment. It was not clear it was a cash bar, so $40 for the limited food was high. Many people, including myself got nothing to eat.
07/06/2007It is clear that everyone put their hearts, souls and creativity into making a memorable convention for us. The weather was great, the socials were fun and, as usual, it was wonderful to see my volkssporting friends from across the US. You did a great job and I had a great time!Any glitches, however frustrating, were to be expected. You can't control every aspect of the convention and things are bound to happen.
